Apple Pear Crisp

The Perfect Pair

Our 3rd recipe to review from Bake the Seasons is on page 139; Pear and Apple Crisp.

Typically a fall recipe, but I make this all year. There is something very comforting about taking a warm crisp out of the oven on any day.

Crisp Topping

  • I used almonds instead of pecans
  • I used light brown sugar instead of turbinado
  • I added 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • I added 1/4 cup of cornmeal (Baking with Dorie recommendation)
  • place topping in freezer for 30-45min before adding to crisp OR make the day before and keep in fridge

The Results

My rating of this recipe is 5 out of 5. The added caramel does make this dessert special. A scoop of vanilla ice cream and some extra caramel sauce, and you definitely have a hit.
